"This is going to be the worst summer by far. I mean two whole months with my dad and Carley, not my idea of a great summer.Why can't a just stay with mom is Alaska, or Aunt Nicole in Australia. Anyways I gotta finish packing ill talk to you later."
Thomas hung up the home, and continued to pack."Thomas! Lets go, Carley's and I are ready and the car is packed, were just waiting on you", yelled Thoma's dad.Thomas zipped up this bag, grabbed his ipod and save one last sigh. "Summer 2010, what a joke this is going to be", turned off his bedroom light and closed his door.
"Thomas, that is all your bringing with you, for two whole months.I mean you have one suitcase."Carley always ragged on Thomas for this or that."Meh, i don't see the point in backing hundreds of bags. I'm in just gonna swim, and hang around all day anyways."Thomas replied.Carley and Jim, that's Thoma's dad, fully knew Thomas was not excited about this family vacation at all. So,the three of them packed the last of their bags, piled into the car,and began there long drive from New Jersey, to sunny California.
When they arrived the quickly unpacked the car, and began to move into there summer cabin. "Thomas i know you aren't looking forward to spending two months in a cabin with Carley and I. So we decided to get you your own cabin. Don't get to excited its right next to ours, and alot smaller but at least your not sharing a cabin with your good old dad and Carley."Thoma's dad was trying so hard to make Thomas enjoy the trip.Thomas thanked this dad and began to move into cabin 26.
It was a nice little cabin. It has its own shower,sink, and kitchen, oh well and of course a bed.Thomas was happy he got to be away from the parents, but still wasn't a happy camper.
Two weeks went by of extreme boredom. Everyday Thomas did the same thing, got up went for a run, than a swim, worked out , than went back to his cabin to shower. He'd eat lunch with Carley and his father,than head out to the wreck hall. Today however, was a little different. Thomas pumped into this very pretty girl, who was carrying a big cardboard box."Watch were your going", he muttered. He girl quickly spun around and apologized. Thomas was in a such a trance by her beauty, he didn't even realize she stopped talking. "Hello, are you okay?". "Oh yeah, hey I'm Thomas. nice to meet you. he quickly replied. "I'm Carmen, I'm the new camp counselor here.Do you work here to?."
No said Thomas, I'm just stay in here with my dad and his new wife for the summer. Did you want help carrying that box?" Why i would love your help, thank you. Thomas was jaw- dropped by her long blond hair,tiny figure and here bright green eyes. At that moment Thomas knew his summer was about to get so much better.
"So, were are you from Thomas?"Carmen asked. " New Jersey," he replied. "You can but the box down here" Thomas quickly placed the box down and two a step towards Carmen. " Did you need help with anything else?"Thomas really did not want to leave and go back to his daily routine when we could be hanging out with cute blond all day. " Thank you for your help, but I'm sure you don't wanna hang around, and help me with camp actives all day. Don't you want to go hang with your friends, or something." Thomas looked down at his shoes, than gave a little smirk and said"Well, actually your the first person I've met about my age, and i don't do much. Plus I'm sure you can use the extra hands." Carmen took Thomas up on his offer, and they quickly set out to work.
Five-Thirty already, oh boy i better get to the dinner hall, hey did you want to come for dinner with me and my parents." Thomas asked. " well i don't want to impose and workers really aren't supposed to eat in the dinner hall." Before Carmen could finish her sentence Thomas cut her off. Your off the clock , and your not a employee. You would be our guest." Carmen smiled and her cheeks began to blush. " I cant turn an offer from a cute guy, who is just so persistent now can I". The two headed off to meet Thoma's parents for dinner.
"Carmen this is my dad, Jim and his wife Carley. Carley, Dad, this is Carmen. She works here as a camp counselor and Ive been helping her all day, do you mind if she joins us for dinner?"Not at all, Carley replied before Jim could get in two words." We always love company Carmen, and were glad to finally see a smile on Thoma's face. He's been so grumpy this whole trip, but i see he has something to look fow". DAD! Thomas cut his father off, and gave him one of those your embarrassing me looks." Anyways enough chat about that, sit down. Id love to hear all about your day. So they sat down and told Jim and Carley all about their day.Carmen went on to tell them all about her involvement with the camp, and her plans for after school. It was about seven thirty before they left the dinner hall.
"Well its getting pretty dark out,Thomas why don't you take the car and drive Carmen home. "Its okay Mr.Fletcher, i only live about a 10 minute walk from here" Non-sense he replied, your you only live about a 5 minute drive from here. Thomas will drive you, its too dark for a pretty young girl to be walking those country roads". Carmen thanked Thomas parents for dinner, and the ride home.
"Sorry, i forgot how embarrassing they were around girls i like. I mean like as a um , a ,friend.Yeah as a friend."Thomas was so afraid he'd just creeped her out . "Ha ha its okay, I enjoyed dinner, well this is my house. Thanks for the ride,I'll see you around i guess?" Thomas smiled and replied "For sure, have a great night".
Thomas drove back to the camp, gave his dad his keys and went for a nice long stroll along the camps lake side.He couldn't get Carmen out of his head. Just thinking of her, and her smile made Thomas blush. He couldn't understand how someone was so beautiful, how someone could be so caring. He thought about her for the rest of his walk.
Over the next two weeks Thomas and Carmen were inseparable. Thomas would help her everyday with camp actives, than the two would continue to hang out til dusk. Carmen's birthday was approaching and she was contemplating inviting Thomas to her house for dinner. She was just afraid her family would scare Thomas off, or give away her secret.
They were sitting on the dock watching the sunset, when Carmen decided to talk to Thomas about her birthday dinner. "So, um Thomas. Tomorrow is my 17Th birthday, and i wanted to invite you to my birthday dinner. Before you say yes, I want to warn you that well my family isn't really normal. By normal i mean there not well human."
Thomas laughed, " Not human, that's funny, I'm sure your family is great!" Carmen wasn't sure if she should tell him the full out truth. She thought if he truly likes her, than he'll accept it." There... Vampires." Thomas was a little confused, " Vampires, so your saying your a vampire. Your a blood sucking monster, who i working at a camp out in the bright sunlight?"
Carmen knew she had to explain how vampires are nothing like movies make them out to be. " Well actually, vampires can go out in the sun, aren't blood sucking monsters. Well we suck blood, but not human blood, but yeah."
Thomas took a step back," So your asking me to come to dinner , with house of vampires? There not going to suck my blood?" Carmen laughed, " No, your fine. I hope this doesn't change your opinion on me.". Thomas leaned in kissed Carmen and told her nothing would change how he feels about her.
The next night Thomas got ready. He had on a nice pair of jeans, and a untucked dress shirt. He styled his hair, and slipped on this black dress shoes. Before he left he looked in the mirror, fixed his hair and headed out.
Thomas pulled up to Carmen's house. He slowly walked up the staircase, and rang the doorbell. Moments later, Carmen opened the door and greeted Thomas. Thomas walked in the door, and entered the front Faye.Thomas was over taken by the size and beauty of Carmen's house. " Don't be nervous. My family is really nice, just follow me." Thomas listened to Carmen, but was still a little on edge about meeting a family of vampires for dinner.
Thomas and Carmen entered the main living room,where Carmen introduced Thomas to her family. "Mom and Dad id like you to meet Thomas, Thomas this is my mom and dad." Carmen's father quickly stepped forward and shook Thoma's hand." well young one , you must be the handsome young fellow our dear daughter is always going on about." before Carmen's father could finish his greeting Carmen's mother stepped in. "Oh yes, i see now why she talks about you none stop. You really are just a cutie."
Carmen is now red as a tomato, so embarrassed from her parents first few words. "Well, I'm flattered, and I'm lucky to have such a beautiful girl like your daughter think that fondly of me."
So the night proceeded on, and Thomas really enjoyed the company of Carmen's parents. Thomas got to see the true side of vampires, and realized there normal just like veryone else. The night was coming to an end, so Carmen walked Thomas to the car and gave him a good night kiss.
For the next week or so Thomas and Carmen spent all there extra time, and did not give one thought to the fact Thomas would be living within the next week. Thomas and Carmen couldn't believe how fast their summers together went by. They also couldn't believe how much they had fallen in love. Thomas knew everything there was about Carmen and vise verse.
Carmen took Thoma's last 2 days off of work, they wanted to spend all the time they could with each other. Carmen and Thomas couldn't bare the thought of departing from each other.
It was the night before Thomas left, everything was quiet. The lake was calm , everyone was inside their cabins. It made the night fill with sadness, and heartbreak. Neither one knew if they would every see each other again. If each other would find someone else, anything. Thomas and Carmen just held each other all night, and talked.
Carmen broke the silence,"Thomas, will you come visit me on the breaks?" Thomas smiled and hugged her tightly. "Of course i will , and you better come visit me as well." Carmen smiled and snuggled into his shoulder. "I'm going to miss you", she said and a single tear rolled down her cheek. "I'm going to miss you too, but just think everyday I'm not here is one day closer til when were together again." Carmen didn't reply, she knew she didn't need to, she just wasn't ready to say goodbye.
Thomas slowly dosed off into a deep, and heavy sleep. Carmen sat on the end of his bed, crying, she knew she couldn't let Thomas leave. There was just one solution, Carmen decided that she had no other choice. She slowly crept up along his side, and gently sliced a cut in her wrist and began to feed the blood to a sleeping Thomas.
When Thomas awoke he had a major headache, and a very sore stomach." Urg, i feel like crap and i still have to pack." Carmen wasn't sure how exactly to tell Thomas its the side effects of becoming a vampire, so she just said it point blank. "Well Thomas,um, well when you were sleeping last night ,i realized i couldn't let you go. It would just break my heart so i feed you my blood." Thomas was a little creeped out by this, " You feed me your blood?" Carmen explained further until Thomas got what she was trying to say. " You turned me into a vampire, so i wouldn't leave?" Carmen realized jsut than, she had made a huge mistake.
Thomas wasn't sure how to react, to be happy he could have a reason to stay with Carmen, or angry she would be so selfish.Thomas thought about both sides and than realized, what was he going to tell his parents. How could he tell his father that his only son coudlnt go home with him cause his summer girlfriend turned him into a vampire. They would think he was mentally insane.He had made his decision.
"Carmen you live a normal life as a vampire, so i could live a normal life back home, couldn't i?" Carmen's face saddened slowly began to speak" You could i guess, i just thought you'd want to stay, with people of your kind." Little did Carmen know Thomas had talked to his parents about moving to California, they just hadn't told Carmen yet. "Carmen this is kinda going to ruin the surprise for later today, but i talked to me dad and we were going to move here in two weeks." Carmen's face lifted into a smile, than quickly reset into a frown. " I'm sorry , i screwed up , i just didn't want to loose you." Thomas knew how much he meant to Carmen, and Carmen meant just as much to him. They shared so much , and now that she had made him a vampire they shared so much more. A connection unlike any other.
" Carmen I love you. I always will , I'm going home to pack and ill be back in two weeks. I cant leave you, and i appreciate all that you've done. Maybe now , i can fit in with your family and you can teach me the vampire ways." Carmen's face began to glow, "I love you too".
